Samantha Lim
Samantha Lim is a dynamic and expressive flautist based in Singapore, currently studying at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) under the mentorship of international flautist Roberto Álvarez. Known for her versatility, rich tone, and musical maturity beyond her years, Samantha is rapidly establishing herself as one of the most exciting emerging voices in the classical flute scene.
Originally from New Zealand, Samantha picked up the flute at the age of thirteen and quickly stood out for her natural musicality and technical fluency. She trained with Dr. Melody Lin, achieving Distinction in her Trinity Grade 8 practical exam in 2022. During her high school years, she led her school’s concert band as section leader and performed as principal flautist in the orchestra, gaining valuable ensemble experience and performance leadership.
Since moving to Singapore in 2023 to pursue formal training, Samantha has performed extensively with the NAFA Orchestra, taking on leading roles including principal flute, soloist, second flute, and piccolo. Her ability to adapt across orchestral settings reflects both her technical command and deep musical sensitivity.
Samantha’s talent has been recognised on international stages. In 2024, she won Gold in the Open Category at the Singapore International Flute Festival, where she also received masterclasses from world-class flautists Erin Bouriakov and Vincent Lucas. Her performance at the festival led to a special invitation to perform with the King’s Flute Choir in their Opera Fantasies concert—an opportunity reserved for standout performers.
In 2025, she returned to the Singapore International Flute Festival, expanding her artistry through masterclasses with Elizaveta Ivanova and Shigeki Tojo. Now in her third year at NAFA, Samantha continues to perform as soloist and principal flute in the orchestra, while actively collaborating in chamber music and solo projects.
Whether on stage as a soloist or blending in a chamber ensemble, Samantha brings a distinctive voice and heartfelt connection to her audience. Her performances are driven by a deep passion for storytelling through sound and a relentless pursuit of musical excellence.
Samantha is available for recitals, ensemble collaborations, orchestral engagements, competitions, and masterclass participation. She is currently based in Singapore and open to regional and international opportunities.
